The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society To Host Light The Night Walk At Penn’s Landing
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will hold their signature walk-event, Light The Night, on Saturday, October 1 at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia at 7 p.m. with registration to start at 5 p.m.
The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter is currently seeking participants and volunteers to raise money towards the Society’s mission of finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
Light The Night is the Society’s nationwide evening walk to commemorate lives touched by cancer. Participants carry flickering red and white balloons along a two to three mile walk within their communities. Cancer survivors hold white balloons, and all other participants carry red balloons.
Individual walkers are welcome, and families and companies are invited to form teams to walk in this evening event. There is no registration fee, but participants are encouraged to raise $100 for the Society’s research and patient service programs. In addition, dedication banners will be displayed to give everyone an opportunity to place a name or message in honor of or in memory of a family member or friend with cancer. Participants will also be awarded a variety of prizes based on their total fundraising efforts.
“While the walk is still several months away, it’s time for participants to start planning for their involvement by recruiting their family, friends and work colleagues,” commented Laura Foltman, campaign manager of the Light The Night Walk. “Last year over 12,000 Walkers raised $1.3 million locally for the Society. This year we have set a goal of $1.5 million.”

Andre Floyd ("Dre") Site Operations Department Penn's Landing Corporation
As the Assistant to the Site Operations department of Penn’s Landing, Andre Floyd manages to keep himself very busy. Since the fall of 2001, Floyd has been working extremely hard to help make Penn’s Landing look as good and as clean as it does. No matter what the season may be, Floyd and his cleaning crew can be found somewhere along Penn’s Landing working tirelessly to keep it clean.
Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Floyd is one of five children, and a graduate of West Philadelphia High School. Floyd has been working hard his entire life to make a better life for those around him. “At Penn’s Landing I am striving to get by and make a better life for my wife and kids,” said Floyd. “My main goal at this point is to become a full-time employee and a full-time union worker for Penn’s Landing,” continued Floyd.
Floyd made it very clear that he owes two people a debt of gratitude for giving him the chance to work at Penn’s Landing, Site Operations Forman, Lavelle Young and Vice President of Operations, Joe Forkin. “Joe Forkin made it possible for me to be here and Lavelle is one of the main reasons I am still here today.” Floyd continues, “I am lucky to be surrounded by great people everyday, whether it be people from the site operations office or the corporate office everyone treats me with respect.”
“The best part of my job is knowing that the site operations staff accept me as one of their own, sometimes the hardest part of a job is getting along with co-workers, luckily I never have to deal with that here because Penn’s Landing is a family,” says Floyd.
“It is always refreshing to encounter a person who is truly enthusiastic about his/her job. Andre Floyd is one of those people. He approaches each and every task with the same unbridled enthusiasm, making it a joy to work with him. He is a credit to Penn's Landing Corporation,” said Joe Forkin Vice President of Operations of the Penn’s Landing Corporation.
Floyd and his wife Bobbie currently reside in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia with their three sons, Andre Jr., Anthony, and Elyjah. Floyd adds, “I need to thank my beautiful wife Bobbie for keeping my life at home stable, without her support I would not be able to get up everyday.”
