The 20th Annual Captain Morgan’s Jam on the River 2005 was the most successful festival in its twenty-year history. Captain Morgan’s Jam on the River is Philadelphia’s Original Jam Band event, attracting music lovers far and wide. This fun-filled music and food festival took place on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29, 2005 on the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, located between Market Street and Walnut Street along the Delaware River waterfront in Philadelphia. The official kick-off to summer in Philadelphia, this Memorial Day weekend event draws thousands of guests who return year after year, where the views of the Philadelphia waterfront are the perfect backdrop to Captain Morgan’s JAM on the River.

After twenty years, Jam on the River has had to adapt and focus its musical theme and talent to be attractive to the “festival-going” market. In 2004 the festival musically featured the newest rage in festivals - Jam Bands. Jam on the River became one of the largest Jam Band festivals in the country. With close to 20,000 people attending festival in 2004 and 2005, the “evolved” event proved fruitful for the Penn’s Landing Corporation and the region.
The Disco Biscuits returned to Jam for a third year to close the stage on Saturday night. The 2005 line up also included: Soulive, New Deal, Jazz Mandolin Project, DJ Logic, State Radio, and Corn Mo on the first day of Jam. Legendary performer Bruce Hornsby headlined Sunday evening. The second and final day of the festival featured: Railroad Earth, Benevento/Russo Duo, DJ Logic, Brothers Past, Particle, and Vince Welnick.
Jam on the River 2005 was produced by Electric Factory Concerts, who helped evolve and continue this heritage concert-driven festival for its twentieth anniversary. Electric Factory Concerts has been one of the world's most respected and largest promoters and producers of live music for over 37 years.
“It was clear to our team that there is a market for this musical genre,” said Joe Brooks, acting President of Penn’s Landing Corporation. “I think their opinion was validated with the phenomenal turnout at the gate in 2004 and 2005. The partnership with Electric Factory Concerts for the 2005 event continued to move this legendary event in the right direction.”
Captain Morgan’s Jam on the River is also the official start of the 20th Anniversary Season at Penn’s Landing. This year, Penn's Landing Corporation will proudly produce its 20th year of free programming on the Great Plaza, the heart of Penn's Landing, and Philadelphia’s premier riverfront entertainment destination.
